Tradeswomen Network

The Builders Code team is guided along the way by a powerful and outspoken network of more than 125 tradeswomen who review key materials, concepts, and approaches prior to their completion. These advisers represent more than 30 different construction trades and work in every region of BC.  They are Apprentices, Red Seals, Business Owners, mentors, and mavericks.  A big shout out to the BC Tradeswomen’s Society for letting their members know about this advisory opportunity: more than 100 participants in our virtual Tradeswomen Network are also members of the BC Tradeswomen’s Society.

If you are a tradeswoman working in BC and would like to join the Tradeswomen Network to advise the Builders Code team as we continue to develop and launch key components of our program, please get in touch using the application form.  There is a stipend of $100 for every participant (up to 200 participants) who contributes in at least five different information-gathering sessions. All participation is virtual and can be done on your own time, from a phone, table, or computer.

One of the most significant contributions this network has made to the Builders Code so far is the emphasis on gender neutrality, to shift the focus from women to the workforce overall.

Together, we’re building a construction industry that works for everyone.

If you’re a construction tradeswoman in BC, we want to hear from you. Our virtual feedback network of BC tradeswomen will continue to provide input on the Builders Code materials and messaging as we move through our pilot phase. We couldn’t have done it without them and we’d be glad to have you on board.

Resources for Tradeswomen

The Builders Code is intended to support all tradespeople by giving BC construction employers tools to manage their worksites to fullest standards of safety and productivity.  We are not a direct resource for tradespeople who are seeking advice on how to respond to hazing, harassment, and bullying that may be happening to them.  If you experience discrimination on the jobsite, we encourage you to research your company’s employer policies and then speak to your manager or business representative.   Here are some other resources that are available specifically to assist tradespeople:

BC Association of Clinical Counsellors

BCCWITT

BC Law Society

BC Legal Aid

BC Tradeswomen Society

British Columbia Indigenous Cultural Safety Training

Centre for Mental Health and Addictions
